Coronation Street newcomer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) has been revealed as the landlord of Abi Webster's (Sally Carman-Duttine) mould-ridden flat, leading to her young son Alfie Franklin being rushed to hospital with severe breathing difficulties. The doctor confirmed that Alfie's condition was a direct result of black mould in his bedroom.
Idris Nazir's Dark Side Emerges
Suave Idris arrived in Weatherfield as Alya Nazir's (Sair Khan) cousin, charming locals including Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson). However, his nice guy act quickly faded when young Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) caught him threatening a man named Damo for money. Executive Producer Kate Brooks had teased: 'He's funny, he's a handsome chap, and he ruffles a lot of feathers, but he's not without an edge. He's not soft, and he's certainly no pushover.'
Idris has also exhibited controlling behaviour towards Leanne, turning off her phone ringer during a romantic moment to avoid interruptions from her sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor). He has already clashed with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), who distrusts him.
Black Mould Discovery
In the café, Abi complained to Leanne about damp in her flat, saying her landlord never returned calls. Later, a bouquet from Idris arrived at Speed Daal, and when Abi heard Idris's phone ring, she realised he was her landlord. That night, Abi tucked a coughing Alfie into bed, unaware that black mould was growing under his bed. When Alfie woke struggling to breathe, Abi called Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), who drove them to A&E.
Idris saw them carrying Alfie out and grew concerned. At the hospital, Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) arrived, and the consultant said tests were needed, keeping Alfie in ICU overnight. Back at the flat, Idris and Brody discovered the mould. Idris rushed to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed the mould caused Alfie's breathing difficulties and advised Abi to find new accommodation.
Fallout and Responsibility
Leanne and Alya pointed out that whoever sold Idris the flat must have known about the damp and should be held accountable. How Idris will handle the problem remains to be seen. The Websters have recently reconciled after a gun stand-off between Kevin and Carl, and they may need to unite against Idris.
