Channel 5 has confirmed that the detective drama Cooper & Fry will return for a second season, following a successful debut run. The series, based on Stephen Booth's bestselling novels, stars Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey) as DC Ben Cooper and Mandip Gill (Doctor Who) as DC Diane Fry.
Returning Cast and New Faces
The second series will see Lorcan Cranitch (Blue Lights) reprise his role as DI Hitchens and Charlotte Bradley (The Dry) as Isobel Cooper. New cast members include Pollyanna McIntosh-Goldthwait (The Walking Dead) as DI Kim Armstrong, Scott Graham (Vikings) as DC Gavin Murfin, and Kathy Rose O'Brien (Small Town, Big Story) as Liz Petty.
Plot and Source Material
The new season will draw from Booth's novels The Devil's Edge, Fall Down Dead, One Last Breath, and The Murder Road. The mismatched detectives will investigate unsettling murders rooted in Peak District folklore while navigating their clashing investigative styles and personal lives.
Cast Reactions
Mandip Gill said: "I'm thrilled to be returning to Cooper and Fry after the brilliant reaction to series one. It's a real pleasure to be working alongside Rob again and I'm excited for audiences to see where the story takes us this time." Robert James-Collier added: "The audience really warmed to the first series of Cooper and Fry and we hope they will again, so stay tuned as we have lots more murders to solve and all sorts of strange goings-on down in Edendale."
Audience Reception
The first series, broadcast in November 2025, was praised by viewers. One fan on IMDB called it "a solid detective show that leaves you with the warm satisfaction of a cosy mystery, but without the annoying idiosyncrasies that seem to be hallmarks of the cosy genre!"
Release Date
Filming is currently underway, and the second season is expected to air on Channel 5 in 2027.
