Stephen Colbert has drawn criticism after making a joke about Ghislaine Maxwell's prison transfer. On Tuesday's Late Show, Colbert discussed Maxwell's move to a minimum-security women's prison in Texas, nicknamed 'Club Fed', following a meeting with federal prosecutors.
Colbert quipped: 'It's so bougie that inmates may take lessons on foreign languages and gardening. Well, you know what they say: on your first day in prison, you will walk up straight to the biggest guy in the yard and say "Excusez-moi, avez-vous le mulch?"'
The White House has denied trading favours with Maxwell, insisting she was moved due to 'very real and very credible threats on her life'. Colbert responded: 'Right, because everyone in the slammer knows: snitches get puppies.'
Colbert also mocked Donald Trump's impromptu press conference on the White House roof, where a reporter shouted: 'Sir! Why are you on the roof?' Colbert joked: 'That's not a question you hear asked of a world leader that often. It's right up there with "Your majesty! Where are your pants?"'
Meanwhile, Seth Meyers on Late Night joked about Trump raising tariffs on Canadian goods and his defence of actress Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad campaign. Meyers said: 'Oh my God, there's a current young famous person who votes Republican. I feel so bad for Kid Rock right now.'
