Channel 5 Announces New Psychological Thriller 'The Heights' Starring Anna Friel

Channel 5 has unveiled a new six-part psychological thriller, 'The Heights', based on the best-selling novel by Louise Candlish. The series stars Anna Friel as Ellen, a devoted mother whose life unravels after a tragedy involving her teenage son.

The cast includes newcomer Kit Redding as Ellen's son Lucas, Conrad Khan (Peaky Blinders) as his friend Kieran, and Diarmuid Noyes (Christy) as ex-husband Vic. Stephen Tompkinson (DCI Banks), Mark Stobbart (Line of Duty), and Charis Agbonlahor (How to Get to Heaven from Belfast) also feature.

The synopsis teases: 'Ellen is happily living in London, a working mum, devoted to her family. But when her son Lucas brings home new friend Kieran, cracks appear. Kieran is rude, reckless and manipulative, leading Lucas astray. A devastating tragedy leaves Ellen consumed by grief, rage and a growing obsession with the truth.'

Anna Friel expressed excitement about the project, saying: 'Really excited to be diving into this world... I hope we make something moving and entertaining.' Author Louise Candlish, an executive producer, added: 'Anna Friel is one of the finest acting talents of our generation.'

'The Heights' is currently filming and is expected to air on Channel 5 later this year as part of the network's 2026 drama slate.
