Death in Paradise returns for a new series on 30 January, introducing a fresh face to the Saint Marie police team. Catherine Garton joins the cast as Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, a rebellious and experienced officer who brings a new dynamic to the squad.
According to the show's producers, Mattie is a younger sergeant with a lot of experience, contrasting with rookie Officer Sebastian Rose. Her rebellious streak and nurturing side are expected to create interesting interactions with the team, as she helps solve the island's baffling cases.
Meanwhile, DI Mervin Wilson, played by Don Gilet, continues to adjust to life in Saint Marie. He discovers a half-brother, Solomon, played by Daniel Ward, but their relationship proves challenging as they are polar opposites. Mervin's quest for family keeps him on the island despite his initial reluctance.
Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington, returns after a period of absence and works to regain the island's trust with tough love from old friend Catherine Bordey. The new series promises emotional twists and lighter moments, including Mervin losing his clothes and ending up in a swimming pool.
Watch new episodes of Death in Paradise on iPlayer and BBC One from Friday 30 January at 9pm.
