MTV's Catfish Cancelled After 13 Years as Hosts Pursue New Careers

MTV has cancelled the reality series Catfish: The TV Show after 12 years on air, with the final episode airing in 2024. The groundbreaking docuseries, which first premiered in 2012, investigated suspicious online relationships and revealed the real people behind profile pictures.

The show was a spin-off of the 2010 documentary of the same name, which followed host Nev Schulman's own experience with being catfished. Schulman initially co-hosted with Max Joseph, who left in 2018, and later with Kamie Crawford from 2018 to 2024.

In a joint Instagram message on 22nd September, Schulman and Joseph confirmed the cancellation. Schulman said, 'After 12 years, 300 episodes and just a lot of traveling around this incredible country, Catfish has officially been cancelled. Sorry.' Joseph added, 'You guys have been awesome, and you made the show worth continuing to do.'

Rumours of the show's cancellation had been circulating for months. Reports indicate that MTV is allowing producers to shop the series to other networks, but the channel will no longer host it.

Schulman expressed gratitude to the subjects who shared their stories, saying, 'Thank you for being a part of this. For turning what was an idea and a documentary into a global conversation about curiosity and compassion.'
