Olly Rix, known for his role in Call The Midwife, is set to make his debut on BBC's Casualty this month. The 40-year-old actor appeared on The One Show to discuss his new character and the innovative filming techniques used in an upcoming episode.
Host Clara Amfo highlighted that for the first time, the show will present events from a patient's perspective. Rix explained that he was built into a rig to capture his point of view, describing it as an 'isolating experience' that enhanced his performance. He praised director George Siougas for creating an organic process that allowed him to look naturally where he wanted.
Rix's character will be joined by Robert Bathurst, best known for Downton Abbey, who plays his father-in-law. Rix revealed that their characters come from different worlds and thoroughly dislike each other on-screen. Bathurst described his character Russell as confident in his own marvellousness, despite being indifferent to public opinion.
The special episode, told from a patient's point of view, follows a man involved in a road accident struggling to balance family life and military service, particularly in light of an affair. Stevie is surprised to recognise him, while Jodie asks Dylan to celebrate good news.
Casualty airs Saturdays on BBC One at 8:30pm, with The One Show continuing weekdays at 7pm.
