In the latest episode of Casualty, available on BBC iPlayer and airing Saturday at 8:10pm on BBC One, a devastating death has left fans reeling. Private Kevin, a soldier, died in hospital, shattering his best friend Rory Dickson and prompting Clinical Lead Flynn Byron to take decisive action against Colonel Jack Bard.
Flynn's Investigation into Colonel Bard
Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) had been determined to expose Colonel Bard (Mark Womack) for abusing and hazing his soldiers. Weeks ago, Private Rory (Gwïon Morris Jones) accompanied an injured soldier to Holby ED, where Flynn questioned him about the patient's historic injuries. Bard intervened to halt the investigation. However, Rory and his best mate Kev were later injured in a military training exercise. Flynn noticed injuries on Rory inconsistent with the fall and asked Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) to watch for suspicious signs.
Stevie's Discovery and Rory's Ordeal
Stevie uncovered evidence of unreported historic fractures on the soldier, confirming Flynn's suspicions. Kev was seriously injured and remained hospitalized, while Rory returned to barracks with Bard. Rory was re-admitted after an eventful night, and Flynn feared for his mental health. Rory was later involved in an accident, and Flynn saved his life using a bilateral thoracostomy. Despite emergency surgery, Rory made a full recovery and was discharged, thanking Flynn for saving him.
Kevin's Death and Rory's Heartbreak
In tragic scenes, Kevin died. Rory was heartbroken and expressed a desire for a medical discharge from the army. Flynn promised to sign the papers. In emotional moments, Rory broke down, and Flynn hugged him. Rory had previously told Flynn he would report Bard only if Kev wanted that when he woke up. Now, with Kev gone, Rory decided not to report Bard, but Flynn, after advice from Stevie, resolved to do so himself. The question remains: will Colonel Bard pay for his crimes?
Casualty airs Saturdays at 8:10pm on BBC One or streams from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
