Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) has come a long way in Coronation Street. Arriving as a desperate woman deep in addiction, her chaotic lifestyle proved a chink in the armour of her hard-faced mum, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman). Reunited with long-lost son Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), she still struggled, caring for Ken Barlow (William Roache) while lacing his tea with antihistamine to increase his reliance on her, before stealing from him.
Feud with Tracy Barlow
This began an everlasting feud with Ken's daughter, Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), who tried to bring on a relapse by tempting Cassie with drugs. Ken forgave Cassie, and residents followed suit. She reunited with Tyrone and sparked a romance with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) – Tracy's ex-husband. Nothing has improved between Cassie and Tracy; the hate has only grown.
When Cassie previously tried to propose, the death of Steve's dad destroyed the moment, and Tracy revelled in the failure. While Steve and Cassie are stronger than ever, toxic Trace remains a source of tension. Next week, Cassie decides to prove once and for all that Steve is hers.
Romantic Night Ruined
As Tyrone and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) head to the Rovers for a romantic night with prosecco, the mood is destroyed by the arrival of Cassie, Steve, and Tracy. Tyrone watches as Cassie tells Steve she's sick of Tracy's nasty mouth and attempts to drive a wedge into their relationship.
Upset, Tyrone suggests that if Cassie truly loves Steve, she must accept Tracy as part of the package – the mother of his daughter, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney). But Cassie has another idea: she wants to claim Steve as her man once and for all, settling on an idea she's had before – getting him down the aisle.
The Proposal
At the cab office, Cassie is determined. She takes to one knee and pops the question: will he marry her? Steve's jaw drops as he takes in the scene. But is he ready for an eighth trip down the aisle? With Cassie shortly set to leave, this proposal may not have a fairy tale ending.
