Gold Logie winner Carrie Bickmore used her acceptance speech at the 2015 Logie Awards to draw attention to brain cancer, the disease that killed her husband Greg Lange in 2010. The Project host urged Australians to wear a beanie on Monday, take a photo with the hashtag #beaniesforbraincancer, and talk about the illness.
Bickmore, who also won the award for most popular presenter, dedicated her Gold Logie to anyone going through a tough time. 'Work has been an incredible escape and an incredible outlet for me over many, many, many years,' she said. 'I want to dedicate this award tonight to anyone that is going through a really shit time right now.'
Six weeks before the awards, Bickmore gave birth to her daughter Evie with partner Chris Walker. She thanked him for 'showing me that there can be sunshine at the end of a long road.'
Other winners included Miranda Tapsell, who won most popular new talent for her role in Love Child and called for more Indigenous representation on TV. Asher Keddie won her fifth consecutive silver Logie for most popular actress, while Dave Hughes entertained the crowd with jokes about Nine network boss David Gyngell's altercation with James Packer.
