Former Call the Midwife star Jennifer Kirby has sparked speculation about a possible return to the BBC drama, five years after her character Valerie Dyer left the show. The actress shared a clip from an episode on social media, prompting fans to demand a comeback for the beloved midwife.
Kirby played Nurse Valerie Dyer from 2017 to 2020, winning over viewers with her compassionate portrayal of the ex-Army nurse. Her character departed in the 2020 Christmas special, after a difficult period that saw her report her own grandmother for illegal abortions and later grieve her death from cancer.
In her recent Instagram post, Kirby simply captioned the clip 'Call the Midwife BBC', leading to an outpouring of support from fans. Comments included 'Please can Val come back!! My favourite character ever' and 'Valerie brought so much to Nonnatus House! She was by far one of my favorite midwives.'
Since leaving the show, Kirby has appeared in Endeavour, Vampire Academy and The Gold. In July, she announced the birth of her first child with husband Robert Gilbert, sharing a candid post about her emergency caesarean and journey into motherhood.
While no official confirmation has been made, the teaser has reignited hope among fans that Valerie Dyer may one day return to Nonnatus House.
