Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rudy Pankow have signed on to star in 'Thud', a supernatural romance directed by Mali Elfman. Gellar will play the Grim Reaper, while Pankow takes on the role of the Devil, in a story where the two characters meet at a three-day destination wedding and fall in love after colliding at the event, each having come to sow chaos.
The film, based on an original screenplay by Noga Pnueli, is set to shoot in Los Angeles with a California tax credit. Producers include Derek Bishé and David Grove Churchill Viste, with executive producers from Helmstreet Productions, Divide/Conquer, and Radio Silence. Lisa Zagoria serves as casting director.
Gellar reunites with Radio Silence, having previously worked with them on 'Ready or Not 2: Here I Come'. Her recent projects include Showtime's 'Dexter: Original Sin' and a cameo in the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' reboot. She also voices a character in the Tubi animated series 'Breaking Bear', alongside Brendan Fraser, Josh Gad, and Annie Murphy.
Pankow, best known for Netflix's 'Outer Banks', recently starred in Universal's 'Reminders of Him' and wrapped a role in the modern Western 'Cowboy'. He will next appear in Hulu's comedy 'Never Change!', which premiered at the Tribeca Festival.
Elfman's feature directorial debut was 'Next Exit', which premiered at Tribeca. She also wrote and directed 'The Scariest Skeleton' for the animated horror anthology 'Dark Corners'. Pnueli, a two-time Black List writer, previously sold 'High Society' to Peacock.
