Bridgerton Season 5 to Focus on Francesca and Michaela's Love Story
Bridgerton Season 5 to Focus on Francesca and Michaela's Love Story

Production for Season 5 of Bridgerton has officially begun, with cameras rolling on Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling's (Masali Baduza) love story since March 24, 2026. The season will explore Francesca's second chance at love following the death of her husband John, as depicted in Julia Quinn's sixth novel, When He Was Wicked, though the series has made a gender-bending change by introducing Michaela as a woman instead of a man.

Showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed that Season 5 will continue to challenge societal norms, following Benedict and Sophie's cross-class romance in Season 4. The official synopsis reads: 'Two years after losing her beloved husband John, introverted middle Bridgerton daughter Francesca decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John's cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran's complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.'

New cast additions include Tega Alexander as Christopher Anderson, a Regency-era Casanova; Jacqueline Boatswain as Helen Stirling, Michaela's spirited mother; and Gemma Knight Jones as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, Michaela's confidante. The season is expected to further explore themes of class and social structure, as hinted by the end of Season 4 which saw John's death and Michaela's departure from Kilmartin House.

Netflix has already renewed the series for a sixth season, which is anticipated to follow Eloise Bridgerton's love story, as indicated by Brownell at a Season 4 premiere red carpet event. The dual renewal ensures fans can look forward to more Bridgerton romances in the future.
