Comedian Bobby Davro has announced plans for a surprise return to television, expressing frustration at being typecast as a relic of the 1980s. The 65-year-old entertainer, known for his impressionist routines and light-hearted comedy, spoke about his ambitions during an appearance on the BBC's This Week programme.
Davro appeared alongside Andrew Neil, Caroline Flint and Michael Portillo to discuss changing tastes in comedy, prompted by the recent remake of classic series Dad's Army. He acknowledged that the nature of comedy had evolved since his heyday, but insisted he remained relevant and eager to work.
“I’m still keen, still ambitious, still contemporary, but unfortunately they put you in a box and say you belong in the 1980s,” Davro said. The comedian, who rose to fame with shows like Bobby Davro on the Box and Davro, has been largely absent from mainstream television in recent years.
Davro's comments come as he prepares to launch a new project, though details remain under wraps. He expressed confidence that audiences would embrace his return, arguing that his style of family-friendly comedy still has a place in modern broadcasting.
