Blue Therapy's 'Highly Sensitive' Scene Almost Cut from Netflix Show

The creator of the new Netflix reality series Blue Therapy has revealed that a 'highly sensitive' scene featuring a couple discussing the loss of their baby almost did not make the final cut. The show, which originally launched on YouTube in 2021, follows seven couples as they undergo therapy sessions guided by couples' therapist Karen Doherty.

One of the couples, Damika 'Dami' and Jermaine, opened up about losing their daughter to Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and their fears about trying for another child. The couple both carry the gene for SCD, which can be inherited by their children. While their son does not have the gene, their daughter tragically did.

Creator Andy Amadi explained that the production team deliberated over whether to include the emotional session. 'One of the things we did struggle with was the idea of keeping Dami and Jermaine's section where they were talking about losing their baby,' he told the Mirror. However, after careful consideration, the team decided it was important to leave it in, as it highlighted the hardships of childbirth and conception.

Amadi noted that the couple was asked multiple times if they were comfortable sharing their story, both before filming and during editing. They agreed, and Dami has since announced she is expecting another child, sharing a picture of her baby bump on Instagram. The showrunner described the filming day as emotional, with everyone in the gallery in tears.
