Big Brother star George Gilbert has been removed from the ITV show after repeatedly using unacceptable language and behaviour, including an alleged antisemitic remark. The 23-year-old actor and parish councillor from Braintree, Essex, was expelled from the house on Sunday, September 28, just two weeks into the series.
ITV confirmed the removal in a statement, saying: 'Following repeated use of unacceptable language and behaviour, George has been removed from the Big Brother House with immediate effect and will no longer participate in the programme.' The offensive comment was not broadcast as it breached standards.
Gilbert had previously received warnings for similar conduct. In response, he said: 'As a flag bearer of freedom of speech I never hesitate to discuss and question any topic... Sadly, the boundaries of what is deemed offensive are subjective and I evidently went too far this time.'
Before his controversial stint, Gilbert had worked with major stars. He appeared in a Debenhams Christmas advert with Liz Hurley, filmed a music video with Ed Sheeran, and had small roles in Downton Abbey: A New Era, Pennyworth, Mary & George, Heartstopper, and EastEnders. He also featured in adverts with Idris Elba for booking.com and music videos for James Arthur.
His Instagram showed him posing with Sheeran and Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint. However, his removal may jeopardise his rising career in acting and presenting.
