Beyond Paradise Star Praises Co-Star After Exit

Beyond Paradise star Barbara Flynn has paid a glowing tribute to her co-star Vincent Franklin following his departure from the BBC Death in Paradise spin-off. The actress, who portrays Anne Lloyd, described Franklin as a 'funny man' and a 'lovely addition' to the show.

Anne Lloyd's Role in Series Four

The fourth series of Beyond Paradise concluded earlier this year, with Anne Lloyd stepping in to prevent Humphrey Goodman, played by Kris Marshall, from being dismissed. The episode also saw Zoe Williams leave Shipton Abbott for travels abroad.

New arrival Mr. James Smith, portrayed by Vincent Franklin, was exposed by Anne for conducting an affair with a DI from Heston Morley station. Speaking on a repeat broadcast of Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, Flynn discussed working with Franklin, saying: 'We got on incredibly well. He's a funny man, and we had enormous fun off-screen as well as on. He was a lovely addition and a bit of a mystery, and it's going to all end in... not tears, but chaos or something.'

Increased Collaboration with Kris Marshall

Reflecting on her character's growing involvement with Humphrey, Flynn added: 'They all find it difficult having Anne in the station. Humphrey is as polite as he could be. He was never rude, but he's so in his head, and so Anne is constantly bemused by him, but at the same time, very fond.'

Kris Marshall also praised Franklin, calling him a 'genius actor'. Flynn described working on the series as 'a joy', heaping praise on writers Tony Jordan and Tim Key: 'Death in Paradise has such a huge following around the world, and I think it is just something pleasant.'

Behind-the-Scenes Challenges

Flynn revealed she broke her ankle after just one week of filming, making certain scenes challenging. She said: 'The rest of it was filmed of me from wheelchairs and crutches. I thought I'd lost a job after the first week, but they said, 'No, no Barbara, we will wheel you up and down'.'

Beyond Paradise is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
