Beyond Paradise is back in production. The show and BBC Studios have confirmed that filming has started on the fifth series, sharing a clapperboard image featuring the silhouette of Kris Marshall's Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman in front of a rural church, set for the first take of the first scene of the new run.
"Anyone spotted a sleuth by the sea? The Shipton Abbott squad are back on the beat! Filming has begun this week on the latest series of Beyond Paradise," the joint post read. "Sunny shores, secrets to solve and scones to scoff - everything you could possibly want on another adventure to Devon and Cornwall. Beyond Paradise will be back on BBC iPlayer and BBC One soon!"
Fans react
Viewers were quick to celebrate the update. "Oh thank goodness! Love this show so much," one fan wrote. Another said: "The only downside of this brilliant show... not enough episodes per series." A third added: "SOOO HAPPY as Theeee BEST Cast Ever and LOVE the storylines AND just everything about it. Countdown is ON!!!!"
What is Beyond Paradise?
The series is the UK spin-off of Death in Paradise, following DI Humphrey Goodman after he leaves the Caribbean island of Saint Marie to join a local police force in the fictional Devon town of Shipton Abbott. Unlike its Caribbean-set parent show, Beyond Paradise focuses on impossible burglaries, stolen vintage cars and missing families. Sally Bretton stars as Goodman's wife, Martha Lloyd.
It also joins the Australian spinoff Return to Paradise as part of the wider Death in Paradise franchise. The new series is expected to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2027.
Where is it filmed?
Filming takes place in South East Cornwall and parts of Devon. The coastal town of Looe, which is in Cornwall, stands in for Shipton Abbott, with the town's Guildhall doubling as the police station. The Cornish town of Launceston often portrays Shipton Abbott's town centre.
Early confirmation
The announcement was actually teased months earlier. In May, Zahra Ahmadi, who plays DS Esther Williams, confirmed the show would return after Kris Marshall let the news slip. "It has been said by a certain Kris Marshall but he was not allowed, and he was very undisciplined and blurted it out but you are getting the true exclusive. We have a fifth series, we are very excited," she said.
