ITV's Betrayal Finale: John and Mehreen's Fates Revealed

The explosive finale of ITV's espionage thriller Betrayal has aired, revealing the fates of MI5 officer John (Shaun Evans) and MI6 agent Mehreen (Zahra Ahmadi). The series concluded with John thwarting a nerve agent attack orchestrated by Iranian regime extremists, while Mehreen's true allegiance as an MI6 operative was exposed.

In the climax, John discovered that General Qasem Asadi (Omid Djalili) was an MI6 informant planning a fake nerve agent attack. However, Asadi's cover was blown after he expressed concern for his family, leading him to abduct John's wife Claire (Romola Garai) and their babysitter. Mehreen intervened, revealing Asadi's MI6 ties, and shot him dead to protect the hostages.

Asadi had disclosed that the real attack targeted a Persian New Year celebration at the South Manchester Persian Centre. John alerted authorities, who neutralised the attackers and secured the nerve agent device. Simone (Nikki Amuka-Bird) confirmed John could continue working on state threats, while MI6 declined to reinstate Mehreen, leaving her in the same department as John.
