Netflix has released the official trailer for Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, an eight-episode prequel to the global phenomenon Money Heist. The series arrives sooner than anticipated, bringing back the iconic character Berlin, portrayed by Pedro Alonso.
What Is the New Series About?
The synopsis teases: "The art of crime reaches a whole new level. A heist where nothing is what it seems. Berlin returns with a new challenge, this time set in the heart of Seville." The plot revolves around a masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci, but precision won't be enough—emotions, impulsive decisions, and crew bonds will put everything at risk.
Alonso reprises his role as the charismatic, self-absorbed criminal. While fans are thrilled for the second prequel season dropping on Friday, May 15, some argue the trailer feels "incomplete" without the Professor, played by Alvaro Morte.
Fan Reactions
Viewers have taken to social media to express mixed feelings. One fan simply asked, "Where is Professor?" Another declared, "Any heist is incomplete without the Professor," accompanied by a crying emoji. Some requested a "separate series" focusing on the Professor, the brilliant strategist behind the original robberies.
Despite his absence from the trailer, actor Morte has confirmed he will make a cameo. In a promotional video, he said: "Returning as The Professor, even if it's just for a very, very small part because it's only a few scenes, it was something I really wanted to do, beyond just being with the crew again. It's like a small gift we're giving to everyone—to the followers, to the fans who have always shown us so much love."
Cast and Characters
Alonso is joined by returning cast members from the first Berlin prequel: Michelle Jenner, Tristan Ulloa, Begona Vargas, and Julio Pena Fernandez. Newcomer Inma Cuesta plays Candela, described as an "unpredictable, fiery and temperamental woman from Seville."
While some fans are disappointed about Morte's limited role, others are thrilled about Berlin's return, calling it a "heist epic" and Alonso a "legend."
Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine launches on Friday, May 15, exclusively on Netflix.
