Good Morning Britain viewers were treated to a light-hearted moment on Friday as Ben Shephard poked fun at co-host Kate Garraway’s dress, comparing its vibrant collar to a Battenberg cake. The 47-year-old presenter couldn’t resist teasing Garraway, 54, about her ‘flamboyant’ outfit choice.

Shephard quipped that the dress was a ‘statement piece’ and joked that Garraway had ‘lost a fight with a Battenberg’. The comment left Garraway red-faced but good-natured, as she defended the designer, saying: ‘She’s a brilliant new designer who’s probably never going to work again. It’s Friday, I thought, “be cheerful!”’

Shephard took the joke to Twitter, posting: ‘Morning all - @kategarraway was at an awards do last night and this morning has won the award for “Best Supporting Collar!” Either that or she’s lost a fight with a Battenberg!’ The post credited a viewer for the cake comparison.

Viewers were divided on the dress, with some comparing it to a butterfly or clown feet, while others praised Garraway for bringing colour to the screen. One fan wrote: ‘Good morning well I ABSOLUTELY love your dress, love how it’s different so nice to see something colourful instead of some of the boring clothes presenters wear.’

Later in the show, Shephard referenced the collar again, noting it was ‘still making a splash’ and reading out viewer comments. Richard Arnold joined in, joking: ‘Does SpongeBob want them back?’ The segment provided a cheerful start to the Friday programme.
