The creator of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Jenny Han, has revealed that she filmed fake scenes with actors Lola Tung and Gavin Casalegno in Paris to throw fans off the scent of the show's true ending. In October 2024, viral videos appeared to show Belly (Tung) and Jeremiah (Casalegno) filming the third and final season in Paris, leading fans to believe the series might conclude with the pair together, despite Belly choosing Conrad in the books.
Han explained to Entertainment Weekly that she wanted to protect the story's surprises. 'We did have Gavin come out so that we could have some stuff with him in Paris, just because I like to keep surprises for the audience,' she said. Casalegno told The Hollywood Reporter he was happy to participate, adding that his sides were blank and he simply 'went out there and ran.' He described the trip as 'super fun' and a 'free trip to Paris.'
In the actual finale, released on Wednesday, it is Conrad (Christopher Briney) who visits Belly in Paris, confessing his enduring love. Belly initially hesitates but ultimately rushes to the train station to stop him, declaring he has always been the one. The episode ends with the couple together at their family's beach house, though their wedding is not shown, disappointing some fans.
However, the story is not over. Hours after the finale, Amazon Prime Video announced a forthcoming film to continue Belly's journey. Han said at the finale's red carpet event in Paris, 'There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.' Han will write the film alongside Sarah Kucserka, with plot and casting details yet to be announced.
