Matt Allwright has announced live on air that the BBC consumer segment Watchdog is taking a short break, with the team set to return in mid-November.
During Wednesday's (October 28) episode of The One Show, presented by Vernon Kay and Clara Amfo, the programme passed over to Allwright, who revealed the news to viewers.
Watchdog's Short Break
Allwright said: "We are going to be taking a short break for a couple of weeks until after Children In Need, but we don't stop."
He added: "Behind the scenes, we will be keeping an eye on all your consumer concerns. We will be back with you in mid-November."
Vernon responded: "Alright great work as always," as the studio audience applauded Allwright.
Expanded Team
The announcement follows Watchdog's expansion of its roster of investigators earlier this year. Viewers were introduced to BAFTA-winning presenter and consumer journalist Nick Stapleton, and Manchester-based broadcaster and documentary maker Amber Haque.
Nick's role carries personal significance as he is the son of late Watchdog presenters John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, who fronted the programme from 1986 to 1993.
In May, Allwright shared the news of the new presenters on The One Show, saying: "I'm so pleased to announce we are welcoming two new Watchdog presenters to our film team. Documentary maker and from BBC's Asian Network the brilliant Amber Haque."
He continued: "As well as Scam Interceptors presenter Nick Stapleton, who is of course carrying on the legacy of his parents, Watchdog Legends John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood."
Watchdog has been a staple on The One Show for decades, investigating viewers' complaints about rogue traders, bad customer service and scams. The segment will resume in mid-November.
