BBC Breakfast descended into chaos on Wednesday (December 17) as presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were forced to hand over to London news after a fire alarm forced the evacuation of the South East news team in Tunbridge Wells.
Viewers in the South East were instead shown London news, with presenter Thomas Magill explaining: 'A very good morning, welcome to BBC London and our viewers in the South East, where the news team there have been evacuated due to a fire alarm.' The explanation was repeated several times during the programme.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed that all staff are safe and normal output has resumed. The incident follows a similar evacuation at BBC Scotland headquarters in Glasgow a few weeks ago, which took BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast off air.
During the programme, Sally and Jon also covered the tragic Bondi Beach shooting, the Post Office Horizon Scandal, and the death of actor Gil Gerard. They also discussed Sir Chris Hoy's terminal cancer diagnosis, with emotional reactions from Sir Andy Murray and Dame Laura Kenny.
