Series 10 and Beyond

The synopsis for the most recent series reads: 'The team discover that the body of the retired social worker has been out in the elements for a number of days. The case will see Tosh and Calder excavate the victim’s life, past and present, as well as the lives of those who knew her. They soon begin to uncover dark secrets and terrible deeds at the heart of this close-knit community.'

Series 10 saw Ashley Jensen and Alison O'Donnell reprising their central roles. They were joined by series regulars including Steven Robertson (DC Sandy Wilson), Lewis Howden (Sgt Billy McCabe), Anne Kidd (pathologist Cora McLean), Angus Miller (Donnie, Tosh’s partner), Conor McCarry (PC Alex Grant), and Eubha Akilade (PC Lorna Burns).

The crime drama has accumulated a cult following, with one fan describing it as 'hands down, the best crime drama on television'.

Upcoming Series 11

Shetland will return for series 11 in November of this year, with filming having taken place in the spring, the BBC reports. The BBC's commissioning editor Gaynor Holmes said the latest instalment is full of twists and turns, overseen by lead screenwriter Paul Logue.

Holmes commented: 'Paul Logue has once again spun a gripping, atmospheric story, with the wild beauty of the Shetland Isles at its heart. Alison and Ashley lead our stellar core cast who are joined by a brilliant line-up of guest stars and supported by a crew whose craft and passion shine through in every frame—together showcasing Scotland on screen at its very best.'
