The BBC's gripping new summer series, Two Weeks In August, makes its debut tonight, Saturday 23 May, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Created by Catherine Shepherd, known for Sally4Ever, the show is described as 'witty and painfully relatable' and follows a group of friends reuniting for a summer getaway that quickly spirals into chaos.
Plot and Production
The series is set in Greece and tells the story of Zoe, a woman who goes on holiday with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life. However, what begins with an illicit kiss soon turns the dream vacation into a nightmare. As Zoe acts on her deepest desires, the holiday becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up. When they become trapped on the island and face life-or-death situations, the group turns on each other to find someone to blame. The synopsis hints at larger forces at play, noting that they are in Greece, 'the land of the ancient Gods'.
Tom George, known for This Country and Sherwood, directed episodes one through four, while Matthew Moore from Colin from Accounts directed episodes five through eight.

Filming Locations
Production took place in Malta and Gozo last year, standing in for Greece. Executive producer and writer Catherine Shepherd explained: 'Malta is a stunningly beautiful place, which is very important to the story, because it's about trying to find paradise. The island has a dramatic, rugged landscape and, like Greece, is steeped in thousands of years of ancient history. The island is a character in its own right; it is beautiful, but a bit dangerous.'
