The BBC has released a trailer for the third series of its popular thriller Vigil, leaving fans excited for the upcoming episodes. The police drama, starring Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie, was partly filmed in Scotland and Svalbard.

New Series Details

The third series consists of six episodes and follows DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) as they investigate the murder of a British special forces member at a remote Arctic research station. The synopsis reveals that the duo must catch the killer and prevent an international confrontation driven by a land-grab for energy resources in the changing polar climate, all while their careers and relationship are on the line.

The trailer shows Silva trudging through snowy terrain, armed men, and a biohazard alert, with a narrator warning: "In the Arctic, you don't understand what's coming."

Cast and Crew

New cast members include Jeppe Beck Laursen, Steven Miller, Killian Coyle, and Dawn Sievewright from the crime drama Shetland. Naomi Yang, Benjamin Wainwright, and Derek Riddell also join the series. Returning characters include Gary Lewis as DS Robertson and Dominic Mafham as Sir Ian Dowing.

The first series of Vigil, which aired in 2021, was set on a submarine. The second series in 2023 revolved around a deadly drone strike. Both series were praised as "gripping" and "suspenseful" by audiences.
