BBC Unveils Teaser for The Other Bennet Sister Christmas Return
BBC Teases The Other Bennet Sister Christmas Special

The BBC has released a fresh set of images from The Other Bennet Sister, offering a first look at the three-part Christmas specials that continue Mary Bennet's story after the series' opening 10 episodes.

The new stills feature several returning cast members, including Ruth Jones as Mrs Bennet, Tanya Reynolds as Caroline Bingley, Laurie Davidson as Mr Ryder, Poppy Gilbert as Lizzie Darcy, Maddie Close as Jane Bingley, Grace Hogg-Robinson as Lydia Wickham, and Molly Wright as Kitty Buncock. Joining the cast for the special episodes is Nerys Amber Stocks, who plays Lucy, the Haywards' housekeeper.

Mary's New Chapter as Mrs Hayward

The images also offer another glimpse of Ella Bruccoleri and Dónal Finn, who return as newlyweds Mary and Tom Hayward. In the series' tenth episode, Mary agreed to marry Tom, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life. However, marriage brings a new identity, leaving one key question unanswered: who will Mary become as Mrs Hayward? As she begins to navigate married life, an unexpected visitor from her past arrives at her door, seeking her help.

Screenwriter Sarah Quintrell, who penned nine of the original series' 10 episodes, has written all three new instalments, drawing on storylines developed by author Janice Hadlow. Asim Abbasi returns to direct the Christmas specials.

A Hit Across Platforms

Based on Janice Hadlow's acclaimed novel, The Other Bennet Sister follows Mary Bennet, the frequently overlooked middle sister in Pride and Prejudice, as she navigates the social expectations and constraints of Regency England, where marriage represents both an aspiration and a necessity.

The series became the UK's biggest new drama across all platforms and streaming services since March 2025, attracting 6.5 million viewers within its first 28 days. Its audience has continued to grow, with the opening episode reaching 9.5 million viewers, including 7.3 million within its first 28 days. Beyond its television audience, the show has also proved a hit across social media, generating 250 million views across the BBC's TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Filming Wraps on the Special

The show's producer Edoardo Ferretti announced to fans on social media that the special had finished filming at the end of October. He posted a short but sweet message on Instagram, saying: "And yet another wrap! Every time emotional, every time proud. This one is going to be so special!"

Not much is known about the plot of the upcoming Christmas special, however, the BBC has teased: "With marriage comes a new identity and the question remains: who will Mary become as Mrs Hayward?"
