The BBC has released the first trailer for The Split Up, a highly anticipated spin-off of the hit legal drama The Split, set in Manchester.
What Is The Split Up About?
Written and created by Abi Morgan, The Split first aired in 2018 and followed the Defoe family in London, who all work in divorce law. The spin-off, The Split Up, centres on Kishan Law, a powerhouse British-South Asian family firm in Manchester's high net worth divorce circuit.
The official synopsis states: "Set in the charged world of Manchester’s high net worth divorce circuit, The Split Up centres on Kishan Law – a powerhouse British-South Asian family firm, and the go-to for the city’s elite. The fast-rising star of Kishan Law is Aria Kishan (Ritu Arya), poised to step up and take the mantle from her father Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar)."
Cast and Characters
The star-studded cast includes Ritu Arya, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Aysha Kala, Arian Nik, Danny Ashok, Dimitri Leonidas, Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shalini Peiris, and Tom Forbes. Guest stars include Lenny Henry and Jane Horrocks.
The story follows Aria as she navigates family and romantic pressures, including a wedding to her long-term partner Neal and the unexpected arrival of a former secret flame.
Trailer Highlights
In the trailer, Aria embraces Neal as he jokes about marrying her "before he gets senile." She runs into Luke, and flashbacks reveal a steamy past affair. Her father announces Luke as the new senior associate at Kishan Law, a shock to Aria.
Creator Abi Morgan said: "The chance to take all that was loved about The Split and use it to inspire the next generation of British South Asian talent... has been a brilliant challenge."
