BBC Releases First Trailer for New Comedy Ann Droid

The BBC has released the first trailer for its upcoming sitcom Ann Droid, a new six-part comedy series set to air on BBC iPlayer next month. The show focuses on an unlikely friendship between a widow and her AI robot.

Plot Overview

Ann Droid follows the life of widow Sue, played by Sue Johnston, whose son Michael (Paul Ready) decides to buy her an AI AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot called Linda, voiced by Diane Morgan, to keep her company. Despite the companion bots being designed to help monitor the elderly's health, Sue is less than impressed by her new gadget.

First Trailer Highlights

This week, the BBC released a first-look trailer showcasing what fans can expect. In one scene, as Sue takes a relaxing bubble bath, robot Linda suddenly appears, alerting her to 'danger' as a warning light appears on its stomach. Startled, Sue yells, "Linda, stop it, stop it! You're supposed to stay in Michael's room." The robot, undeterred, informs Sue that falling asleep in the bath could be 'lethal'. When Sue protests that she is naked, Linda replies, "That isn't a problem for me," before dropping a dressing gown into the bath to cover her. Attempting to lighten the mood, Linda tells a joke that falls flat, prompting Sue to order her to leave her alone.
