BBC viewers have declared “we are so back” as major quiz shows have been confirmed to return. “Quizzy Mondays” are making their comeback from Monday, July 13, with new seasons of Only Connect, Mastermind, and University Challenge airing.
Scheduling Update Brings Joy to Fans
From 7.30pm, a new episode of Mastermind, hosted by Clive Myrie, the 22nd season of Only Connect, hosted by Victoria Coren-Mitchell, and Bristol University versus Imperial University on the first round of University Challenge, with quizmaster Amol Rajan, will begin showing. With quiz season returning, fans have been left over the moon, with one writing, after seeing Only Connect return to schedules: “Excellent news, but I greedily want them to continue showing the repeats as well. I'm really enjoying my daily fix.”
“Fantastic news thank you,” another said, as a third said: “I’m more excited for this than I have any right to be.” “We are so back,” someone else wrote, while another added: “Absolutely thrilled that this series will go on for (almost) as long as UC.”
Clive Myrie Confirms Mastermind's Return
Meanwhile, Clive Myrie took to social media to confirm the new series of Mastermind, saying: “The questions are set and the Mastermind black chair awaits 96 new contenders but there can only be one Champion. Who will take home this glorious glass bowl?” He added in the caption: “#quizzymondays are back! The new series of #mastermind is here for your delight and delectation. More wonderful contenders all vying for the top prize will be with us every week with a dizzying display of mental agility, while perched in the famous black chair. The whole family will have enormous fun and learn a thing or two along the way so tune in!”
Followers rushed to share their support, with one person writing: “Can’t wait Clive. You’re my guy!” Another said: “Oh Clive, can't wait. Mondays aren't the same without u and mastermind. So excited now!” Someone else added: “Yay that’s great news Clive! Shall certainly watch. You are the best on TV.”
Victoria Coren-Mitchell Hints at 'Ridiculous' Series
This comes after Only Connect host Victoria hinted the new series is “ridiculous”, with more episodes than previously at 38. She told Radio Times: “I’ve always said that the joy of a quiz – or a crossword, or a detective story – is the satisfaction of making order out of chaos. I don’t think anyone would argue that the world is feeling especially orderly at the moment. So our need to escape into quizzing may be at a high.” Mastermind airs Mondays from 7.30pm on BBC Two and iPlayer, followed by Only Connect and University Challenge.
