BBC Breakfast viewers faced another day of schedule disruption on Sunday (April 27), as the programme was moved from BBC One to BBC Two after just one hour. The change was made to accommodate coverage of the London Marathon, which airs from 8:30am to 2pm.
Presenter Gabby Logan will lead coverage of the 45th edition of the race, with around 50,000 competitors expected. Among them are David Stancombe and Sergio Aguiar, whose daughters were killed in the Southport attack last year while attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance event. They are raising money for charitable projects started in memory of Alice Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six.
The disruption follows a similar change on Saturday (April 26), when BBC Breakfast ended early at 8:30am to make way for live coverage of Pope Francis's funeral. Presenter Naga Munchetty informed viewers of the early finish, saying: “Early finish for Breakfast today. The time now is just coming up to half past 8 because next on BBC One there will be, of course, live coverage of the funeral of Pope Francis. That begins at nine o’clock.”
Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg was also moved to BBC Two due to the marathon coverage. The presenter reassured viewers during a live link with the Breakfast team that she was “happy” to be on the alternative channel. However, some viewers may be less than impressed with the channel hopping, especially as it is the second day running of schedule disruption.
BBC Breakfast normally airs from 6am to 10am on BBC One and iPlayer.
