BBC's Babies: Release Date, Cast, and Plot for 'Bittersweet' Drama

BBC One's new drama Babies premieres tonight, Monday, March 30, at 9pm, taking over the slot previously held by MasterChef: The Professionals. The six-part series will air on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the full series available on BBC iPlayer from 6am on the same day.

Described as a 'gripping, warm and urgent love story', the show follows a couple in their 30s, Lisa and Stephen, as they struggle to conceive. After multiple miscarriages, the series explores their grief while highlighting the humour, warmth, and unwavering bond that can emerge through loss.

The cast is led by Paapa Essiedu (The Capture, I May Destroy You) as Stephen and Siobhan Cullen (The Obituary, Bodkin) as Lisa. Jack Bannon (Endeavour, Pennyworth) and Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders, Wuthering Heights) play their friends Dave and Amanda.

The official synopsis notes that the series also follows Amanda and Dave's relationship, which tests their compatibility and exposes cracks in Stephen and Dave's long-standing friendship. The show promises a blend of hope, humour, and love amidst the heartache.
