Anthony Radziwill's Tragic Story Explored in Disney Plus's Love Story Series

The latest episode of Ryan Murphy's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, now streaming on Disney Plus, poignantly references another tragic loss suffered by the Kennedy family. This series focuses on the highly publicised relationship and marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which ended in tragedy, while also shedding light on the personal struggles of those close to them.

Who Was Anthony Radziwill?

Anthony Radziwill was born in Switzerland in 1959 and held the title of Prince. He was the son of Caroline Lee Bouvier Canfield and Polish aristocrat and diplomat Prince Stanisław Radziwiłł, making him the nephew of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Radziwill pursued a career as a television executive and filmmaker, specialising in factual programming.

He began his career at NBC Sports as an associate producer, contributing to the broadcaster's coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympics. In 1989, he joined ABC News as a television producer for Primetime Live, and just one year later, he won the prestigious Peabody Award for an investigation into the resurgence of Nazism in the United States.

What Happened to Anthony Radziwill?

Radziwill was first diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1989 and underwent treatment, which led to remission but reportedly left him sterile. Unfortunately, shortly before marrying his wife Carole, new tumours were discovered. Throughout their five-year marriage, he continued to undergo treatment for metastasising cancer, including some experimental therapies, where cancer spreads from the primary tumour to other parts of the body, causing secondary tumours.

Despite numerous hospitalisations, operations, and medical appointments, Radziwill and his wife tried to maintain their careers as journalists as best they could, with Carole also serving as his primary caregiver. They lived in New York throughout this period, and Radziwill had the honour of being the best man at John F. Kennedy Jr.'s wedding to Carolyn Bessette on September 21, 1996.

Tragically, Anthony Radziwill died on August 10, 1999, just six days after his 40th birthday and less than a month after JFK Jr.'s fatal plane crash. This timing adds a layer of profound sorrow to the Kennedy family's history of loss, as depicted in the series.
