Amazon MGM has released the trailer for 'Verity', a twisted thriller based on Colleen Hoover's novel. The film stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling novelist hired to complete the latest book by best-selling author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway, after an accident leaves her unable to write. As Lowen works on the project, she uncovers a disturbing unfinished manuscript that raises questions about Verity's mental state.
The trailer reveals a tense romance between Lowen and Verity's husband Jeremy, played by Josh Hartnett. In a shocking moment, Lowen kisses Jeremy but realises it is actually Verity when she tastes blood, prompting a scream of horror. 'Darkness ahead,' Verity warns in the two-minute teaser.
'Verity' is Hoover's fourth novel to be adapted for the big screen in two years, following 'It Ends With Us', 'Reminders of Him' and 'Regretting You', all of which performed well at the box office. The film opens in cinemas on 2 October.
The cast also includes Brady Wagner, Asel Swango and Daniel Echevarria. Amazon MGM is banking on Hoover's track record to deliver another hit, especially after the success of 'Project Hail Mary', which has grossed $600 million worldwide.
