Ann Droid viewers are demanding a Christmas special after the BBC series came to an end on Friday, August 21. The six-part show, starring Diane Morgan as a social humanoid robot, followed her character Linda forming a friendship with Sue Johnston's character Sue.
Fans Call for Festive Episode
Viewers have been left begging for more, with some urging a Christmas special in replacement of Brendan O'Carroll's Mrs Brown's Boys. “That would be fab - I'd tune in for that. Christmas cracker,” one person wrote. Another said: “Definitely would watch that,” while a third wrote: “I am hoping for Series 2 so a Christmas Special would be the icing on the cake. Maybe Linda could discover children who wouldn't be getting presents Christmas morning and do something about it. Every episode makes me laugh, feel sad and think deeply. It's Sue Sue Super!”
Another fan replied to Sue: “I adore you and Diane in whatever you're in. Loved Ann Droid!” One person wrote: “Definitely need a Christmas Special of Ann Droid and also many more series. It is brilliant and very funny. “Gets my vote…. Absolutely love it,” another said, while one simply wrote: “Oh yes please.”
Mandy Christmas Special Set for 2026
This comes after another of Diane's Christmas specials is set to be released this year, after an episode of Mandy was abruptly pulled from schedules over the festive period in 2025. The Mandy Who Knew Too Much was due to air on 22 December 2025, but was removed from schedules days earlier, with the BBC confirming at the time that it would air in 2026. Mandy stars Diane as the titular character, “a hapless, jobless heroine whose daft adventures mostly end in disaster”.
The synopsis for the episode teases: "Mandy rarely dabbles in global diplomacy, especially over Christmas when it's so cold out and there's good telly on, but when she does, you can bet that she makes a real difference to the balance of power in the world." Diane briefly addressed the special being pulled from schedules, telling The Independent it was “because of world events”. “I think they decided it was for the right reasons,” she said. “It was a complete accident. I'm never one of these comedians that tries to be topical – it's just not what I do. It's completely out of keeping with me.”
