Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden marked an emotional personal milestone during her latest appearance on the BBC One dance contest, revealing it had been a year since she underwent a second mastectomy.
Dowden, who lost her place in the competition during week two of the 2026 series alongside celebrity partner Chris Appleton, shared two images side by side on Instagram on Saturday, November 7. One showed her in the ballroom this weekend, while the other captured her sitting on her sofa watching the show during her surgery recovery last year.

In her post, the Welsh star wrote: "A year ago today, I had just made it home from hospital in time for Strictly, after undergoing another mastectomy." She continued: "The start of November over the last three years hasn’t been easy. It’s been a time of year I’ve dreaded, bringing back so many emotions, memories and challenges. But fast forward a year, and I couldn’t be prouder of how far I’ve come, of my body and my incredible Strictly family, who have supported me every step of the way."
Dowden, who was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent gruelling treatment in 2023, added: "What an incredible show after such an amazing week I’ve had! Feeling truly grateful for everything! Life really is precious. Never take a moment for granted. Remember to get out there and LIVE life!"

Dowden and Chris Appleton, a celebrity hairstylist whose clients include Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, became the first couple to be voted off following Movie Week in week two of the 2026 series. It marked the second consecutive year that the Welsh star had been the first to be eliminated, after finishing in the bottom two with Thomas Skinner during the previous edition. Despite her exit, Dowden continues to appear in the Strictly ballroom each weekend to support her fellow professionals and their partners.
