Amazon Prime has set the summer of 2025 ablaze with its latest soft-focus teen romance, Every Year After, adapted from Carley Fortune’s young adult novel Every Summer After. The series, which dropped all eight episodes today, has already prompted fans to cancel their plans and dive into the addictive, tear-jerking story.
A Tale of First Love and Second Chances
The show follows Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) and Sam Florek (Matt Cornett), who share a first love that ebbs and flows over six summers in Barry’s Bay, Canada. A decade later, Percy works as a dour obituary writer, grappling with a life that hasn't gone as planned. When a close family friend dies, she returns to Barry’s Bay for the memorial service, desperately avoiding her ex Sam, now a doctor. The present-day drama is intercut with flashbacks to their teenage summers, where they bond over horror movies and lake swims to a soundtrack of Gracie Abrams, Lana Del Rey, and Noah Kahan.
Critical and Fan Reception
The series has earned an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, drawing comparisons to The Summer I Turned Pretty. Fans have taken to social media to express their devotion. Saher wrote on X: 'Hey so I’m already in tears and I’m only 3 mins in.' @kingofevrythlng tweeted: 'Skipping gym tonight to binge. Let’s go!!' Daisy added: 'I have such high hopes for Every Year After please don’t let me down, it will ruin my summer.'
Every Year After is available to stream on Amazon Prime. Whether you're a fan of the book or new to the story, all eight episodes are waiting to be devoured.
