There is exciting news for Channel 5 viewers, as a brand-new psychological drama is set to hit screens later this year. Titled The Fortune, the series features Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson as Amanda Blakefield, a woman who enjoys a contented life alongside her husband Jimmy (Matthew Lewis) and their son Luke (James Younger).
A Life Turned Upside Down
However, matters take a dramatic turn when Amanda's entire world is turned upside down after she receives a substantial inheritance. What makes it all the more unsettling is that she has never met nor heard of the man who has left her the estate.
A synopsis for the series reads: "Her life starts to disintegrate as she becomes embroiled in the world of The Worrall Family. The patriarch Martin Worrall, played by Denis Lawson, is head of a family which is bound in past secrets. As Amanda is drawn further and further into past events and relationships, all of their lives are turned upside down."
Star-Studded Cast
Also appearing in the cast is Rebecca Front, who portrays Martin's wife, Fiona, and All Creatures Great and Small star Callum Woodhouse as his son, Anthony. Meanwhile, actor Stephen Tompkinson takes on the role of farm worker Boots Maddison, Paula Wilcox plays Amanda's mother Linda, Danielle Walters is Amanda's best friend Sandy, and Nina Wadia portrays solicitor Laura.
This week, Channel 5 released a selection of first-look images from the four-part series, which was filmed across the North East, taking in locations such as Hartlepool, Northumberland, and Newcastle. One image from the preview depicts Amanda and Jimmy engaged in a heated exchange, appearing to be in the midst of a row. Another shows Anthony (Callum Woodhouse) casting an unimpressed glance at Amanda while clutching a rifle under his arm. In one photograph, Amanda appears visibly fearful and anxious while standing outside The Worrall family home.

Viewers have taken to social media to express their enthusiasm for The Fortune, with many eagerly anticipating yet another gripping psychological drama arriving on the channel.
