All Creatures Great and Small fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the beloved Channel 5 drama following an emotional festive special in 2025. The series, based on James Herriot's books about his life as a vet in rural Yorkshire, remains Channel 5's most successful drama to date, and new episodes are on the way.
Season 7 Expected Release Date
Season seven of the hit show is expected to follow the 2025 festive special, which saw plenty of action unfold, including the return of Helen (Rachel Shenton). Set in 1945, the festive season in Darrowby marked the first since the end of World War II, with historical context including Christmas trees and turkey being in short supply, and Maggie (Mollie Winnard) missing her husband, who never returned from the front line.
All Creatures Great and Small will return for another two seasons, with a double commission announced for series 7 and 8, each comprising six one-hour episodes, plus Christmas specials. Although a broadcast date hasn't yet been confirmed, filming for new episodes has commenced. There has been a new season of All Creatures every year since 2020, with five arriving in September and one in October, so season 7 could land this autumn.
In February, Samuel West confirmed to his followers that filming for the seventh series was underway, as the team behind the Channel 5 drama had reunited. Samuel also recently shared some behind-the-scenes snaps from being on set, including the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales landscape. In one snap, fans can see the back of actor Nicholas Ralph's head as he's dressed in his James Herriot jacket while looking out into the Yorkshire Dales countryside. The actor captioned the post: "Nick enjoying today's location near Burnside. Feel very blessed to be working in the Dales on days like these."
Plot Details for Season 7
While Channel 5 is currently keeping the series 7 plot details under wraps, Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor for Channel 5, has teased that there are "many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead." Barnett said: "All Creatures Great and Small is a jewel in Channel 5's drama crown and continues to delight viewers year after year. Its warmth, humour and heart, set against the beauty of Yorkshire, have made it a firm audience favourite. We're thrilled to extend its future with two more series, with many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead for our Skeldale family."
Details of the series 7 cast are yet to be confirmed, but we're expecting the following cast members to return: Nicholas Ralph (The Most Reluctant Convert) as James Herriot, Rachel Shenton (The Rumour) as Helen Alderson, Callum Woodhouse (The Durrells) as Tristan Farnon, Samuel West (Mr Selfridge) as Siegfried Farnon, and Anna Madeley (Deadwater Fell) as Mrs Audrey Hall.
All Creatures Great and Small is available to watch on My5.
