The fifth season of All Creatures Great and Small will premiere on Thursday, September 19 at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5. The first episode, titled 'To All Our Boys', sees Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) and Helen (Rachel Shenton) attending a community meeting about the local war effort.
Siegfried Farnon (Sam West) is under pressure to keep the surgery running in the absence of James (Nicholas Ralph) and Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), and relies more heavily on Carmody (James Anthony-Rose). Meanwhile, at RAF Abingdon, James and his crew prepare for an important training flight, but James is unexpectedly grounded after a medical examination delivers surprising and disappointing news.
James is sent to do farm labour but steps in when a cow is having a difficult calving, reigniting his passion for veterinary work. Elsewhere, Carmody's new surgery triage system gets him into trouble with Siegfried, and Mrs Hall signs up to help the community.
The series is set in spring 1941, with World War II fully underway. Helen is adjusting to motherhood, while Siegfried takes on extra work at the surgery. Tristan's return is not as straightforward as hoped, but viewers are delighted that Callum Woodhouse reprises his role.
