For 13 years, Gogglebox families have entertained Channel 4 viewers with their reactions to the week's TV. But behind the scenes, the cast must adhere to three strict rules during filming, as reported by OK! magazine.
The first rule bans alcohol consumption while filming to avoid slurred speech. An exception occurred in earlier series when Jenny and Lee had a drink before shooting, leading to Lee sliding off the sofa. Jenny told Radio 2: “What we did was, when we saw that shot, we stopped drinking, so now we don’t drink at all.”
However, there is no shortage of food. Cast members can order treats such as cakes, fish and chips, and snacks via Deliveroo and other takeaways, all on expenses, as long as it's within reason.
Thirdly, producers encourage families to amp up their reactions for entertaining episodes. While they won't dictate how to act, they suggest topical clips to elicit the best responses. Stars are also advised not to look at their phones to avoid distraction.
