The Undeclared War Returns for Series 2

Channel 4 has announced the return of its critically acclaimed cyber-thriller The Undeclared War for a second series, releasing a first-look trailer that promises heightened stakes and new threats. The six-episode drama, which originally aired four years ago, is set in a post-pandemic 2024 and follows a senior team of analysts at GCHQ as they covertly defend against cyber-attacks targeting the UK during a general election.

Simon Pegg Reprises Role, Sian Brooke Joins Cast

Simon Pegg returns as Danny Patrick, GCHQ's director of operations, while Sian Brooke joins the cast as his wife Barbara, an analyst and former MI16 operative. The teaser clip shows a screen being compromised, with Danny stating: "This is a potentially nuclear piece of malware." A voiceover clarifies this represents the cyber equivalent of an armed assault, as pressure intensifies when Danny reveals they have a mole within GCHQ.

High Stakes and New Threats

The footage depicts characters looking profoundly stressed as they attempt to uncover who is under attack. Another figure points out that 'serious allegations' are being levelled at a 'respected colleague'. Channel 4 captioned the trailer on Instagram: "New threats. Higher stakes. Cyber-thriller The Undeclared War returns. Coming soon to Channel 4 #TheUndeclaredWar."
