Netflix users are heartbroken after already devouring new episodes of a series that holds a perfect 100% rating. The latest instalments of Haunted Hotel left viewers feeling 'broken' due to their emotional storylines.
Second season arrives with eight episodes
Haunted Hotel debuted on the streaming service in 2025. Its second season arrived last week and is more compact than its predecessor, comprising eight episodes.
The programme comes from Matt Roller, a former writer on Rick and Morty. Its synopsis describes a single mother of two battling to operate a haunted hotel alongside her estranged brother, who has become one of the resident ghosts and believes the other spectres harbour some rather strange suggestions of their own.
Star-studded voice cast and critical acclaim
The second season follows the family and phantoms on further escapades and also delves into previously undisclosed histories of central characters. Audiences will recognise numerous members of the animated programme's star-studded voice ensemble, reports the Mirror.
These include Four Seasons star Will Forte, Scrubs alum Eliza Coupe, Superman's Skyler Gisondo, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Jimmi Simpson, amongst others. Haunted Hotel's debut season achieved a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its most recent offering has secured a flawless 100% amongst both reviewers and viewers.
Fans demand more episodes
Those who have already raced through every episode in record time have heaped praise on the show's more emotionally driven storylines. Steering clear of spoilers, one viewer posted online: "The last episode left me absolutely broken."
They continued: "I loved season 2, but only eight episodes definitely weren't enough. I absolutely devoured it. And when we see the time skip to the one light on in the room, I instantly started crying. It hurts my heart so much. All I can say is I need more episodes. Please, Netflix, give us season 3."
Others echoed the sentiment that the new series felt far too brief. One replied: "This is really good quality show.... eight episodes was definitely not enough. Episode one had me with Abaddon: 'but I want him to like me' and episode four and eight just gutted me."
Yet another concurred: "I watched the entire season in half a day! Wish there were more episodes...I love the little fantasy world it's based in. I think I'll watch season 1 again to stay in their universe a little longer."
Horror elements described as comforting
Although the series frequently draws upon horror elements, devotees insist it does so in a manner that feels reassuring rather than frightening. One viewer explained: "Haunted Hotel just gets it. As a horror fan, this show feels like a massive warm hug. It takes all the weird, dark stuff and turns it into pure comfort."
"I throw it on the second. I need to shut out the rest of the world and just chill. The characters feel like old friends, the atmosphere is insanely cosy, and I genuinely never want it to end. Absolute perfection." Haunted Hotel is streaming on Netflix.
