Lupin has returned to Netflix for its fourth part, three years after the third season ended with the expert thief in prison. The new episodes, now streaming, follow Assane Diop as he attempts the quiet life in Senegal before learning of a copycat committing museum heists under the Lupin name in Paris.
Assane Returns to Paris
Played by Omar Sy, Assane must return to Paris to catch the imposter and clear his name. The previous season concluded with Assane turning himself in after a series of improbable raids on the rich. He was shown in his cell surrounded by the works of Maurice Leblanc, whose Arsène Lupin stories inspired his persona.
The season also revealed that his nemesis, Hubert Pellegrini, was the hidden mastermind behind many mysteries and was in the cell next door. The show is known for its twists, so viewers are advised not to take everything at face value.
Reception and Reviews
This marks the longest gap between seasons since the show first premiered in January 2021, with season two arriving later that year and season three in late 2023. The fourth instalment sees Sy promoted to co-showrunner behind the scenes and has received solid reviews so far, though not enough for a Rotten Tomatoes score.
The Guardian gave the season four stars, describing it as 'higher-budget, higher stakes and more cinematic' and noting its timely premise following the Louvre heist last year. Screen Rant wrote: 'If Lupin season 4 stays focused on the heart of its narrative, Assane's final outing as the gentleman thief is sure to be a thrilling joyride with enough charm to spare.' Collider also praised the season for maintaining the quality of narrative, production, and performances, adding that 'the action looks even better so far'.
Lupin part 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
