William and Harry Briefly Unite to Honour Diana Award Winners
William and Harry Unite to Honour Diana Award Winners

Prince William and Prince Harry set aside their differences this week to honour young people who received the Diana Award. The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex each wrote separate letters of congratulations to the nearly 200 award recipients.

The young people were honoured on November 4 by The Diana Award charity, established in memory of the brothers' late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The charity aims to empower young people to drive change through initiatives that unlock potential, inspire action and create opportunities, ensuring no young person is left out or left behind.

Letters to Winners from 44 Countries

According to People magazine, the separate letters praised the award winners, 23 of whom are from the US. Letters were sent to each of the 198 winners, who come from 44 countries, including the US, India, Nigeria, Ukraine and Mongolia.

Both brothers support the charity, but they are not believed to communicate with each other. This has been the case for several years, with no signs of healing the rift. They are believed to have been out of contact since the release of Harry's memoir Spare in 2023.

Charity Chief Executive Praises Winners

Dr Tessy Ojo CBE, Chief Executive of The Diana Award, praised the young winners in a statement. She said: "Their courage, compassion and determination to tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges are a powerful reminder that young people are the change makers of today."

She added: "These young people are proof that, whatever their background or circumstances, the desire to make a difference is universal. They are building on Diana, Princess of Wales' legacy almost 30 years on."

Neither brother attended the awards in person this year. It is not yet known if the charity will hold major events next year to mark Diana's legacy, as 2027 will mark 30 years since her death following a car crash in Paris. William is believed to mark the anniversary privately, while rumours suggest Harry could be considering making a documentary.
