Vicky McClure is back on TV screens tonight as the new series of Trigger Point starts. The 43-year-old will return for season four of the ITV thriller as bomb disposal expert Lana Washington.
One of British TV's best-loved stars, Vicky is also known for her roles as DI Kate Fleming in Line of Duty and Lol Jenkins in the acclaimed This Is England TV miniseries and film from Shane Meadows.
A Love Story That Began on Set
It was on the 2013 movie Svengali that the BAFTA-winning actress met her Welsh husband and fellow actor Jonny Owen, 55. In the comedy film, which is also written by Jonny, the pair play love interests. And it seems love spilled over into real life as the couple got together off-screen shortly afterwards.
Vicky said she "just knew" that Shameless star Jonny was The One after their first phone call - and that was before they'd even met. While Jonny described his now wife as his "dream woman" and said "it wasn't difficult to play someone in love with Vicky."
Proposal and Wedding in Nottingham
It wasn't long before they realised they were falling for each other. Within months they had moved to Nottingham, where Vicky is from, as she was homesick living in London.
After three years together Jonny proposed on Christmas Day 2017 by leaving the diamond ring next to the teabags. But he almost didn't have a ring to pop the question with after leaving it in a pub safe on a boozy night out the day before. Luckily he was able to get it back in time and Vicky said yes!
The pair married in August 2023 in a ceremony at the Council House in Vicky's hometown of Nottingham followed by a boozy knees up at events venue Metronome in the city's Creative Quarter.
A Life of Dancing and Travel
Vicky, who wore an off the shoulder wedding dress, was seen downing cans of Red Stripe beer with her Line of Duty co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar. TV presenter and comedian Paddy McGuinness also made the couple's star-studded guest list.
While the Dementia Choir, which Vicky runs away from her acting day job, sang as she took to the dance floor for her first dance with her beloved dad Mick.
Vicky and Jonny have also set up club night Day Fever, which is a day rave for over 30s which started in Nottingham and now tours around the country. You can often find videos of Vicky dancing at the events on her Instagram page, where she has 846,000 followers.
Other snaps include a recent trip to Norway where they stayed in a gorgeous igloo above the Arctic Circle. Sharing pictures and videos captured during their idyllic break, Vicky told her followers: "NORWAY. Genuinely hard to describe our trip to Norway! Never felt so relaxed in my life."
She added: "More moments and memories to share…but starting with our time at @isbreentheglacier. Breathtaking views, igloos of dreams and ran by the most welcoming, fun & kind people. We both feel extraordinarily lucky to have experienced this place on earth."
Gushing about her life with Jonny, Vicky has previously said: "I've never loved anyone more than I've loved Jonny." On an interview with The Guardian, she shared: "We have a really lovely life in Nottingham which he fully embraces, and when we're at home we just like to stay in our house – we'll make a nice breakfast, watch a film, relax. There's never anything unspoken between us. Being upfront with each other is really important to me and I feel totally safe with Jonny. I hope the future holds the rest of our lives together – I can't see my life without him in it."
In the same interview, Jonny spoke equally fondly of his other half, saying: "Vicky's a really warm person. She treats everyone the same and because we're from similar working-class backgrounds we just fit well. At home she has a ciggy with my mother in the kitchen and she's great at impressions – she does a brilliant Aretha Franklin when she's had a few drinks and gets on the table. It always brings the house down. Just don't ask her for her Welsh accent – it's the worst you've ever heard and it hasn't improved in the two years we've been together."
