Sarah Ferguson is returning to Britain, adding to King Charles' headaches as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also plan an extended UK stay.

As if King Charles didn't have enough headaches with royal tell-all Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returning to the UK, now Sarah Ferguson is back too. The monarch was reportedly stunned by the Sussexes' return as they failed to inform him first, instead telling royal courtiers they were planning on an extended stay that could last years.
This is a nightmare for Charles as it suited his purpose for them to remain in California quietly working away and just making the odd high-profile visit, acutely aware of the lingering rift between Harry and Prince William. Now like a horde of Vikings appearing on the horizon, a source close to Fergie has dropped the bombshell that she's heading back to Blighty too.
Why She Was Laying Low
Let's remember why she was laying low in an Alpine chalet in Verbier for months in the first place, after being humiliated by a stream of seedy revelations in the Epstein Files. Firstly, last October she lost her 'Duchess of York' title when ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor relinquished his titles in the wake of mounting pressure over his links to paedophile US financier Jeffrey Epstein.
But also in 2011 Fergie gave an interview - after Epstein's 2008 conviction for procuring a 14-year-old schoolgirl for prostitution - to stress how she had made a "terrible error" in "having anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein." Then in September 2025 an email surfaced claiming that shortly after giving that 2011 interview, Fergie emailed Epstein to apologise for throwing him under a bus, and stressing he was still her "supreme friend".
She was immediately ditched by charities as their patron. Then in January the US Department of Justice (DoJ) released millions of documents, some proving Fergie was also in contact with Epstein while he was in prison in Palm Beach County slammer. She even asked Epstein to pay for her and princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, to see him in New York after his release from jail - afterwards, like a toady, she gushed praise on him for being "the brother I have always wished for".
Then in 2010 she heaped more praise on the pervert saying: "I really don't have the words to describe, my love, gratitude for your generosity and kindness. Xx I am at your service. Just marry me." Fergie strenuously denies any wrongdoing, but these emails and others show an unsettling gross lack of judgement.
Why Are They Flocking Back?
So King Charles had one migraine with Harry and Meghan's frosty fallout with William and Catherine and now he has Fergie on our shores too. The next question is why are they all flocking back? For Harry and Meghan it appears to be a long-term commercial decision, with insiders claiming the Sussexes have felt a cooling towards them from US celebrities, media and powerbrokers. They will be hoping to explore new opportunities and markets here and maybe some minor royal work if allowed.
But why is Fergie back? She and Andrew were both forced out of Royal Lodge in Windsor, in February although had already gone to ground abroad by then to dodge the Epstein Files' fallout. She was last seen in public at the Duchess of Kent's funeral last September - that's an impressive 12 months of avoided photographers.
It is claimed Fergie is renting a gated six-bed, three-bathroom property in the Home Counties "imminently". News of her impending arrival has already sparked an angry response from the British public and I cannot imagine she would risk that ill-feeling unless she had no other choice.
With Princess Eugenie announcing the birth of her third child in the last few weeks, and rumours that Beatrice's marriage has not been smooth sailing since the Epstein Files besmirched the 'York' name, I think Fergie has realised she has some parenting and grandparenting to do. Charles will just be praying she keeps her head down and avoids any fresh scandals. There have been suggestions she is looking at a tell-all TV documentary to bolster her dwindling, if now empty, coffers. If so, it's just the last thing King Charles needs now - and Britons will never forgive her.
