The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have been forced to alter their Easter break plans at Sandringham due to the Duke of York's refusal to vacate Wood Farm, it has been claimed. Prince Edward and Sophie reportedly intended to stay at the property during their regular holiday to the King's Norfolk estate, but instead had to use a holiday let after Andrew remained in residence.
Andrew moved into Wood Farm, the former home of Prince Philip, after being evicted from Royal Lodge earlier this year. He is expected to relocate to Marsh Farm, another property on the Sandringham estate, but is said to be 'dragging his heels' over the move, which was due to be completed around Easter. This has forced Edward and Sophie to use Garden House, which can cost up to £4,110 per week in peak season.
A source told The Sun: 'Andrew was evicted from Royal Lodge at Windsor but now has two homes at his disposal. He is just going back and forth between Wood Farm and Marsh Farm. It’s got to be sorted as Edward and Sophie like to use Wood Farm.' It was previously reported that Edward became the first and only relative to visit Andrew in Sandringham to have a 'quiet word' about expediting his move.
Recent weeks have seen deliveries and renovations at Marsh Farm, including removal workers carrying boxes labelled 'HRH', new security fences, and a Sky TV engineer installing services. Royal sources confirmed the King has covered the refurbishment costs due to Andrew's financial difficulties. A mobile home has also been delivered for security staff, paid for by the King.
The situation follows the King's order for Andrew to clear Royal Lodge of his belongings, with aides seen removing possessions and loading skips. Andrew was stripped of his prince title and dukedom over his association with Jeffrey Epstein and denies any wrongdoing. He was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
