Princess Michael of Kent's Health Struggles Intensify Amid Personal Tragedies

While King Charles navigates his own troubles, Princess Michael of Kent, Marie Christine, is enduring an even more dire situation. At 81 years old, the princess, married to Queen Elizabeth's beloved first cousin Prince Michael, is reportedly seriously ill. A close friend reveals, 'Her Royal Highness suffered a stroke. Sadly, she is now bed-ridden.' This development marks the latest in a series of misfortunes for the royal figure.

A Cascade of Misfortunes

Princess Michael attended King Charles's pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace in 2024 with her wrists in splints, a result of a fall down the stairs at Kensington Palace, where she resides with her 83-year-old husband. The accident occurred ten months after the tragic death of her son-in-law and while she was still recovering from heart surgery. She was carrying an armful of overcoats when she fell, luckily landing into the coats but breaking multiple small bones as she tried to break her fall.

'So many things that you rely on being able to do, like cleaning your teeth, are impossible,' said the princess, who is also an author. 'I can type with one finger on a mobile, but I can’t use a laptop.' She added, 'I am told that, after an accident like this, if you do one wrong movement on top of the unhealed bones, you are back where you started.'

Previous Health and Personal Losses

Nicknamed 'Princess Pushy' due to her assertive personality, Marie Christine underwent heart surgery a year earlier, which she described as shocking, noting she still needs to rest every afternoon. Her health problems were compounded by the death of her son-in-law, Thomas Kingston, a handsome and popular financier married to her daughter, Lady Gabriella Windsor. He died at 45 from a traumatic head wound, with a gun found near his body at his parents' Cotswolds home.

Marie Christine expressed her grief, saying, 'Tom was a lovely man, so kind and so thoughtful. They were very happy together.' She also mentioned her son, Lord Frederick Windsor, his wife actress Sophie Winkleman, and their daughters, Isabella and Maud, noting they often had family gatherings without any indication of trouble. Lady Gabriella later told the inquest her husband shot himself in an impulsive decision linked to an adverse reaction to prescribed drugs.
